Wanted Police Officer Unmasked as Dacoit in Jalgaon, Maharashtra

Jalgaon police officials announced that a serving officer, who had earlier been declared "badtarif" (wanted), was identified as a dacoit operating in the district. The revelation emerged after a routine check linked the officer to a series of criminal activities traditionally associated with organized bandits.
The department has launched a formal inquiry to determine how the officer evaded detection while holding a uniformed position. Senior officials said the case underscores gaps in internal monitoring and will be pursued with full legal rigor.
Investigators have seized relevant documents and are coordinating with state crime branches to trace any accomplices. The officer has been taken into custody pending further legal action, and the police have assured the public that the matter will be resolved transparently.
This incident has raised concerns among residents about the integrity of law‑enforcement personnel and prompted calls for stricter background checks within the force.
The Jalgaon administration has pledged to strengthen oversight mechanisms to prevent similar breaches in the future.
