Counting of paper ballots for the eight Bihar Legislative Council seats – four teacher and four graduate constituencies – began today, with results expected later. The process is being closely watched as reports of unrest surface in Patna.
The counting of paper ballots for eight seats in the Bihar Legislative Council started today. The seats comprise four teacher constituencies and four graduate constituencies, each decided by a separate electorate.
Election officials have indicated that the results for the teacher seats will be declared first, followed by the graduate seats. Because the voting was conducted on physical ballot papers, the tabulation process is expected to take several hours.
Meanwhile, law‑enforcement agencies reported disturbances in parts of Patna, where some groups gathered to protest the ongoing count. Police have deployed additional personnel to maintain order and ensure that the counting proceeds without interruption.
The outcome of these seats is significant for the balance of power in the state's upper house, as the council plays a key role in reviewing legislation passed by the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
