The Vizhinjam International Container Terminal (VICT) will commence full export‑import operations today, marking a milestone for India's maritime trade.
Located just south of Thiruvananthapuram, VICT is the country's first fully integrated container terminal and the largest in the Indian Ocean region.
With the new operations, the port will be able to handle all types of cargo, including bulk, break‑bulk and containerised goods, reducing turnaround times for ships.
The launch is expected to boost trade connectivity for the western coast and provide a shorter route for vessels heading to the Middle East and East Africa.
