Vijayawada Airport to Shift to Hub‑and‑Spoke Model with New Terminal

Vijayawada Airport officials disclosed that the airport will transition to a hub‑and‑spoke operational model, coinciding with the development of a new passenger terminal. The move is part of a broader strategy to transform the airport into a regional aviation hub, facilitating smoother transfers and increased flight frequencies.
The hub‑and‑spoke system will allow airlines to operate feeder flights from smaller surrounding airports to Vijayawada, where passengers can connect to larger domestic and international services. Authorities expect the model to attract more carriers, improve load factors, and stimulate economic activity in Andhra Pradesh.
Construction of the new terminal is slated to begin later this year, with completion targeted within three years.
