Volunteer Vijay Goyal removed litter from the Gandhi selfie spot at Rajghat in Delhi as part of a pre‑Gandhi Jayanti cleanliness drive.
Vijay Goyal, a local volunteer, carried out a cleaning operation at the Gandhi selfie point located within the Rajghat memorial complex in Delhi. The activity took place on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, aligning with a city‑wide push to present the site in a pristine condition for the national holiday.
Rajghat, the final resting place of Mahatma Gandhi, attracts thousands of visitors each year who come to pay homage and capture photographs. The selfie point, a popular spot for tourists, had accumulated litter and debris, prompting the ad‑hoc cleanup.
The effort forms part of the broader Swachh Bharat (Clean India) initiative, which encourages citizens and civic groups to maintain public spaces. Organisers highlighted that such grassroots actions help preserve the dignity of historic landmarks ahead of commemorative events.
Local authorities welcomed the volunteer’s initiative, noting that community participation is essential for sustaining cleanliness standards at heritage sites. No official statements were released beyond acknowledging the contribution of volunteers like Goyal.
