Vijay Government Withdraws RTI Exemption for Law and Order Department

The state government led by Chief Minister Vijay announced that the special exemption from the Right to Information (RTI) Act for the law and order department would be withdrawn. Responding to the backlash, the government issued an order restoring the department’s liability to comply with RTI requests, while noting that genuine security concerns would still be handled under existing provisions. Officials added that the decision seeks to balance the public’s right to know with operational confidentiality, and pending RTI applications will now be processed under the standard timeline.
