Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami observed the Pitru Visarjan Amavasya ritual by performing tarpan, a traditional offering to departed ancestors. The ceremony took place on the designated new‑moon day, a significant occasion in Hindu practice.
During the ritual, Dhami recited the customary mantras and offered water to the souls of his forebears, following the rites prescribed for Pitru Visarjan. The act reflects the personal devotion of the political leader to cultural traditions.
The performance of tarpan by the state's head underscores the importance of the observance among Uttarakhand's largely Hindu populace, many of whom mark the day with family prayers and rites at home or local temples.
Local officials noted that the event was conducted without any public gathering, adhering to the usual protocol for private religious observances by public figures.
