A newly released sugarcane variety in Uttar Pradesh attracted overwhelming farmer interest, with all planting buds booked online within five minutes.
The Uttar Pradesh agricultural authorities have introduced a fresh sugarcane variety aimed at modernising the state's cane cultivation. The new cultivar was made available to farmers through an online platform that allows advance booking of planting buds.
Within just five minutes of the opening of the online portal, every batch of buds was snapped up, signalling a surge of enthusiasm among the farming community. The rapid uptake underscores the high expectations farmers have for the new variety.
Officials highlighted that the swift response could translate into higher planting acreage in the upcoming season, potentially boosting the state's sugarcane output. The online system, operated by the ChiniMandi marketplace, is expected to streamline distribution and reduce delays in seedling supply.
The state government plans to monitor the performance of the variety closely, with field trials scheduled across major cane‑growing districts. Positive results could lead to wider adoption and strengthen Uttar Pradesh's position as a leading sugarcane producer in India.
