A Right to Information request obtained by the daily Mid‑Day shows that Uttar Pradesh is responsible for 78 per cent of all cases awaiting disposal in Fast Track Courts across the country. The data, released by the Ministry of Law and Justice, underscores the disproportionate burden shouldered by the state’s judicial system.
Fast Track Courts were created to accelerate the resolution of criminal and civil matters, aiming to reduce the chronic backlog that plagues Indian courts. While the national average pending rate remains high, Uttar Pradesh's share far exceeds that of any other state, according to the RTI response.
