Food safety officials in Uttar Pradesh have confiscated a tanker carrying about 22,000 litres of potentially unsafe desi ghee that originated from Greater Noida, pending sample test results.
Food safety officer Navdeep Singh Chahal of the Uttar Pradesh Health Department reported that a tanker loaded with roughly 22,000 litres of desi ghee was seized on suspicion of being unsafe. The vehicle, which had arrived from Greater Noida, was intercepted during a routine inspection.
The ghee, described as "suspect" by officials, is being held at a designated storage facility while laboratory samples are collected. Authorities said the volume is significant and could affect local markets if found non‑compliant.
Chahal added that once the laboratory report is received, the department will decide on further action, which may include disposal, recall or legal proceedings against the supplier.
The seizure underscores the state's ongoing crackdown on adulterated food products and its commitment to safeguarding consumer health.
