Opposition leader Uttam Kumar Reddy criticised the BRS government, claiming its policy errors reduced Telangana’s ability to cope with the El Nino drought.
Hyderabad — In a recent interview, Congress leader Uttam Kumar Reddy asserted that Telangana’s capacity to withstand the ongoing El Nino weather pattern was compromised by a series of administrative lapses by the ruling BRS government. He pointed to delayed water‑release decisions, inadequate irrigation maintenance and insufficient drought‑relief measures as key factors that weakened the state’s agricultural sector. Reddy warned that without corrective action, the current El Nino could exacerbate crop losses and farmer distress across the region. The opposition figure called for an immediate audit of water‑resource policies and urged the state cabinet to adopt scientifically‑driven mitigation strategies. The BRS has not yet responded to the allegations, but officials say they are monitoring the situation closely as monsoon forecasts remain uncertain.
