Senator Marco Rubio touched down in Mumbai, marking a high‑profile visit as New Delhi and Washington work to finalise a pending trade agreement.

Senator Marco Rubio arrived in Mumbai on Thursday, joining Indian officials in a series of meetings aimed at sealing a long‑awaited trade pact between the United States and India. The visit comes as both capitals intensify diplomatic outreach to resolve outstanding tariff and market‑access issues that have stalled the agreement for months.

Rubio, a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is scheduled to meet with senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, as well as representatives of key Indian business chambers. Sources say the agenda will focus on agricultural exports, technology services, and the removal of non‑tariff barriers that have hampered bilateral trade growth.

Indian Prime Minister’s Office officials have highlighted the strategic importance of the deal, noting that a concluded agreement would boost trade volumes to over $150 billion within the next decade. While no final terms have been disclosed, both sides have expressed optimism that the talks will culminate in a signed document before the year‑end.

Rubio’s Mumbai stop also includes a brief engagement with local industry leaders, underscoring the commercial dimension of the diplomatic effort. Observers view the senator’s presence as a signal of Washington’s commitment to deepen economic ties with India amid shifting global supply chains.
