U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Jamnagar to tour the Reliance refinery and will stay overnight, meeting Mukesh Ambani for dinner at the Vantara Centre.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio landed in Jamnagar on Wednesday, arriving earlier than planned to conduct a tour of the Reliance Industries refinery. The visit, which was originally scheduled to conclude by 9 pm with a return to Mumbai, has been extended to include an overnight stay at the refinery complex.
During the visit, Rubio is expected to discuss plans for refining Venezuelan crude, a move that could expand Reliance’s oil processing capacity. The refinery, one of the world’s largest, is a key asset in India’s energy strategy.
Later in the day, the secretary will dine with industrialist Mukesh Ambani at the Vantara Centre. The meeting is seen as an opportunity for the U.S. and India to strengthen economic ties and explore joint ventures in the energy sector.
Rubio’s trip comes a few weeks after a controversial incident involving Elon Musk and Ambani, adding a layer of diplomatic sensitivity to the visit.
