The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission has increased the permissible radius for biometric attendance to 500 metres, giving trainees more flexibility when checking in at training centres.

The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission announced on Monday that the allowable distance for biometric attendance at its training centres has been expanded to 500 metres. Previously, trainees were required to be within a much tighter radius, which often caused inconvenience for those commuting from nearby villages or towns.
The change aims to reduce the logistical burden on skill‑seeking candidates, many of whom travel long distances on public transport. By widening the radius, the mission hopes to improve attendance rates and ensure that learners can focus on acquiring new skills rather than worrying about strict check‑in requirements.
Implementation will begin from the first week of the coming month. All participating institutes have been instructed to update their biometric devices and inform trainees of the new parameters through SMS alerts and notice boards.
The mission’s spokesperson said the decision was taken after receiving feedback from trainees and training providers, and it aligns with the state government's broader push to make skill development more accessible and learner‑friendly.
