Union Minister Bhagirath Choudhary Opens Pearl Millet Centre in Gudamalani

Union Minister Bhagirath Choudhary inaugurated the Regional Pearl Millet Research Centre in Gudamalani, Rajasthan. The centre, completed after three years of construction, aims to strengthen pearl millet research and promote improved varieties for arid conditions.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the newly built Regional Pearl Millet Research Centre in Gudamalani, a town in Rajasthan’s Barmer district. Union Minister Bhagirath Choudhary performed the inaugural rites in the presence of agricultural scientists, state officials and local farmers.
The centre was conceived three years ago when its foundation stone was laid. Construction has now been completed, providing a dedicated facility for research on pearl millet cultivation under arid and semi‑arid conditions prevalent in western Rajasthan.
Officials said the centre will focus on developing high‑yielding, drought‑tolerant varieties and disseminating improved agronomic practices to farmers. It will also serve as a hub for training programmes and field demonstrations.
During the event, Minister Choudhary emphasized the importance of pearl millet for food security in dry regions and urged scientists to work closely with farmers to ensure that research outcomes reach the field.
