The United Nations highlighted that free‑trade agreements will be pivotal in widening market access for India’s economy.

New Delhi – A United Nations spokesperson emphasized that free‑trade agreements (FTAs) are set to play a pivotal role in enhancing market access for India’s economy. The statement, released through Asianet Newsable, underscored the strategic importance of deepening trade ties under existing and future FTAs.

The UN noted that India’s current network of FTAs with countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Australia and the European Union has already contributed to export growth, but further integration could unlock new opportunities for sectors ranging from manufacturing to services.

Policy analysts see the UN’s remarks as a signal for the Indian government to accelerate negotiations on pending agreements and to leverage existing ones for greater export diversification. The organization urged Indian businesses to prepare for a more competitive landscape while capitalising on the broader market reach that FTAs can provide.

While no specific policy changes were announced, the UN’s endorsement adds weight to ongoing discussions within the Ministry of Commerce about expanding the country’s trade footprint in the post‑pandemic era.
