Five gates of the Johila dam in Umaria district were opened as a result of intense rainfall, part of the active monsoon affecting Madhya Pradesh.

Heavy rainfall has been persisting across several districts of Madhya Pradesh, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures. In Umaria, the Johila dam’s five gates were opened to regulate the rising water levels and prevent potential flooding. The decision followed sustained downpours that have seen Balaghat receive 1.25 inches and Birsa 3.25 inches of rain. Meanwhile, Bhopal experienced a sharp rainfall burst in the morning, followed by a steady drizzle throughout the day. The dam’s gate opening is part of the state’s broader effort to manage water resources during the monsoon season.
