The Madhya Pradesh High Court lifted the stay that had halted work on the Mahakal‑to‑Kot Mohalla road in Ujjain. Within hours, the district administration ordered the deployment of JCB machines to commence widening the arterial stretch.
Officials said the expansion is critical given the proximity of the Mahakaleshwar temple complex, where traffic congestion has long plagued pilgrims and local commuters. The widened road is expected to create smoother flow and better connectivity between the temple and surrounding neighborhoods.
The project, classified as a priority under the Singhsth (temple) development plan, will be executed under the supervision of the Ujjain municipal corporation. Work is slated to begin this week, with completion targeted before the upcoming Navaratri festivities.
Local residents and temple authorities welcomed the swift action, noting that improved infrastructure will enhance safety and accessibility for the estimated thousands of daily visitors.
