The government reports that the UDAN regional connectivity programme has carried 1.72 crore passengers across 687 routes in its first ten years.

New Delhi – The Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme, launched in 2016 to boost regional air connectivity, has reached a ten‑year milestone by moving 1.72 crore passengers on 687 domestic routes, the government said on Thursday.

The data released by the Ministry of Civil Aviation shows a steady rise in seat capacity and flight frequency on tier‑2 and tier‑3 city links, reflecting the programme’s success in making air travel affordable for a broader segment of the population.

Officials highlighted that the scheme’s continued expansion is expected to add more routes and increase passenger numbers further, aligning with the broader goal of integrating remote regions into the national economy.
