Chhindwara police announced the arrest of two youths suspected of purchasing an illegal firearm after being influenced by a short video on Instagram. The men were taken into custody following a preliminary investigation that linked the social media content to the weapon transaction.
The Instagram reel reportedly showcased a pistol, prompting the suspects to acquire the same model for a sum of approximately ₹55,000. The purchase was made despite existing prohibitions on unlicensed firearms in the state.
Authorities have seized the pistol and are conducting further inquiries to determine whether the weapon was intended for personal use or illicit distribution. The police have reminded the public that sharing or promoting illegal arms on social platforms is a punishable offense under Indian law.
