Two Urban Local Bodies from Tripura have been conferred national awards for their performance in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) scheme. The accolade recognises their work in delivering affordable housing to the urban poor.
The awards were announced as part of the national recognition programme under PMAY-U, which seeks to honour urban local bodies that have excelled in implementing the housing mission. Tripura’s two ULBs stood out among numerous participants from across the country.
Officials said the honour reflects the sustained efforts of the local administrations in identifying beneficiaries, expediting construction and ensuring timely delivery of houses under the scheme. Their work has contributed significantly to reducing the housing shortage in urban areas of the state.
The recognition is expected to motivate other municipal bodies in Tripura and elsewhere to adopt best practices and accelerate progress towards the goal of housing for all by 2024.
