The Rajasthan forest department will move one tigress each from Tadoba‑Andhari and Pench tiger reserves in Maharashtra to the Hadoti region to boost tiger numbers and genetic diversity.

The forest department of Rajasthan has launched the second phase of its tiger‑conservation programme in the Hadoti belt of the state. Under the plan, a tigress from Maharashtra's Tadoba‑Andhari Tiger Reserve and another from Pench Tiger Reserve will be relocated to the region.

Officials say the move is aimed at augmenting the existing population of fifteen tigers and tigresses currently residing in the local reserves, thereby enhancing the genetic pool and reducing inbreeding risks.

The translocation will be carried out in coordination with the Maharashtra forest authorities, with veterinary and wildlife experts overseeing the capture, health checks, and transport of the animals to ensure their safety.

Once released, the new residents will be monitored through radio collars and field surveys to assess their adaptation and impact on the local ecosystem.

The initiative reflects a broader national effort to strengthen tiger corridors and maintain viable populations across India's protected areas.
