Two New Waste Compactors Commence Operations in Delhi, Serving Three Localities

The Delhi Municipal Corporation has put two waste compactors into service as part of its ongoing effort to improve solid‑waste management in the capital. The machines are positioned at strategic collection points to streamline the handling of refuse from three identified neighbourhoods. By compacting waste on site, the authorities expect to reduce the volume of garbage transported to landfills and cut down on traffic congestion caused by frequent collection trucks.

Officials said the compactors will operate round the clock, with regular monitoring to ensure they meet environmental standards. The move follows a series of initiatives announced earlier this year to modernise Delhi's waste‑processing infrastructure and address the growing pressure on existing disposal sites.

Residents of the three areas are being advised to segregate dry and wet waste before disposal, enabling the compactors to function more efficiently. The municipal body will assess the performance of the new units over the coming weeks before considering further expansion of the compactor network across the city.
