Two arrested as 2,400 packets of fake Captain cigarettes seized at Jamalpur station, Bihar

RPF’s CBI team intercepted a consignment of 2,400 packets of counterfeit Captain cigarettes being moved from Munger to Delhi at Jamalpur railway station, arresting two smugglers.
Police officials said a large consignment of counterfeit cigarettes was discovered at Jamalpur railway station in Bihar while it was being transferred from Munger to Delhi. The seized goods comprised 2,400 packets of the popular "Captain" brand, which had been repackaged to appear genuine.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of the Railway Protection Force and the Central Bureau of Investigation. Investigators stopped the freight train at Jamalpur, conducted a thorough search and recovered the entire stock without any reported injuries.
Two individuals directly involved in the smuggling were taken into custody at the scene. Both are suspected of being part of a larger network that manufactures and distributes fake tobacco products across northern India.
Authorities have launched a wider probe to identify the manufacturers, suppliers and potential buyers of the counterfeit cigarettes. The seizure underscores ongoing efforts to curb the illegal tobacco trade, which poses health risks and deprives the government of tax revenue.
