The Tumakuru police department partnered with PETA India for a workshop aimed at strengthening measures against animal cruelty in the city.
Tumakuru police officials welcomed representatives from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India on Thursday for a focused workshop on preventing animal cruelty. The session, described as a leading initiative, brought together law enforcement officers and animal‑rights activists to discuss practical steps for better enforcement of existing animal welfare laws.
During the workshop, PETA India highlighted common forms of cruelty reported in the region, such as illegal animal fighting, neglect of stray animals, and violations in transport. Police officers were briefed on legal provisions under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and were encouraged to adopt proactive monitoring and rapid response mechanisms.
The collaboration aims to create a coordinated framework where police can swiftly act on complaints, conduct regular inspections, and raise public awareness about humane treatment of animals. Both sides expressed optimism that the joint effort will lead to a measurable decline in cruelty incidents across Tumakuru.
The event concluded with a pledge from the police department to integrate the workshop’s recommendations into daily patrols and to work closely with PETA India on future training sessions.
