Former President Donald Trump praised Pentagon chief John Hegseth for his performance but said it was too early to discuss a potential 2028 presidential bid.
During a recent interview, Donald Trump highlighted John Hegseth’s performance as the Pentagon chief, calling him "fantastic". Trump added that the idea of Hegseth running for president in 2028 was premature.
The comments came after an NBC News report suggesting that Hegseth might consider a White House run. Trump’s remarks were aimed at reassuring supporters that Hegseth’s current role remains the priority.
Hegseth has been praised for his handling of defense policy and military readiness. Trump’s statement indicates a cautious approach to any future political ambitions for the Pentagon chief.
The former president’s comments were made in a broader discussion about potential 2028 candidates, but he emphasized that Hegseth’s focus should stay on national security.
Observers note that Trump’s remarks may influence the perception of Hegseth’s future political prospects, though no formal announcement has been made.
