Former President Donald Trump has demanded that Democratic officials be jailed and has instructed the Department of Justice to investigate alleged wrongdoing.
Former President Donald Trump, speaking at a press conference on Thursday, urged that Democratic officials be sent to jail for alleged misconduct and directed the Department of Justice (DOJ) to launch a formal investigation.
Trump’s statement followed a series of accusations that Democratic leaders had engaged in corrupt practices, though no specific evidence was cited in the remarks. He instructed the DOJ to examine the claims and take appropriate legal action.
The former president’s call comes amid heightened partisan tensions, with Democrats criticizing Trump’s accusations as politically motivated. No official response from the DOJ has yet been released.
The directive marks a rare instance of a former president directing a federal agency, raising questions about the scope and independence of the DOJ’s investigative process.
