Punjab police arrested a truck driver after discovering an AK-47 rifle and several grenades hidden in his vehicle during a cross-border smuggling operation.
Punjab police detained a truck driver at a border checkpoint after a routine inspection revealed a concealed AK-47 assault rifle and multiple grenades inside the cargo area. The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, was traveling from the Indian side towards the Pakistan border when the seizure was made.
Investigators say the weapons were part of a larger cross‑border smuggling network that aims to funnel illegal arms into the region. The seized ammunition and explosives are being examined for serial numbers and origin, which could help trace the supply chain.
Senior police officials confirmed that the driver has been charged under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for involvement in illegal arms trafficking. The case will be forwarded to the district court for trial, and authorities have pledged to intensify monitoring of freight traffic along the Punjab frontier.
