The Tripura government has announced a five-year roadmap aimed at meeting the state's demand for milk, meat and eggs through local production.
Tripura's state administration presented a comprehensive five-year strategy designed to make the northeastern state self-reliant in three key animal‑origin food categories: milk, meat and eggs. The roadmap outlines measures to boost dairy farming, expand poultry operations and develop organized livestock breeding, with an emphasis on modern techniques and market linkages.
Officials said the plan will involve financial incentives for small and marginal farmers, capacity‑building programs, and the establishment of cold‑storage and processing facilities to reduce post‑harvest losses. Coordination with the central Ministry of Agriculture and the National Dairy Development Board is expected to channel technical expertise and funding.
If successful, the initiative could cut Tripura's dependence on imports from other states, stabilize prices for consumers and generate additional income for rural households. The government has set targets to increase per‑capita milk availability by 30 percent, raise poultry output by 25 percent and double egg production by the end of the period.
The scheme will be monitored by a dedicated task force that will review progress annually and adjust interventions as needed. Stakeholders, including farmer cooperatives and private agribusinesses, have been invited to participate in the implementation phase.
