The Tripura state government has announced a Rs 100‑crore plan to revamp the Dumboor hydroelectric plant, aiming to boost power generation.

The Tripura government unveiled a Rs 100‑crore scheme to modernise the Dumboor hydroelectric project, a key source of renewable energy in the state. The revamp is intended to enhance the plant’s efficiency and increase its power output.

Dumboor, located on the Gomati River, currently operates with a modest capacity that falls short of the region’s growing electricity demand. Upgrading the turbines, control systems and associated infrastructure is expected to raise generation levels and reduce transmission losses.

Funding for the project will come from the state’s development budget, supplemented by central assistance under renewable‑energy schemes. Officials anticipate that the work will commence in early 2027 and be completed within three years, delivering a more reliable power supply to households and industries.

The Energy Department has highlighted that the upgrade aligns with Tripura’s broader goal of expanding clean‑energy capacity and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, thereby supporting the state’s climate‑action commitments.
