Resident doctors in Tripura have announced a pen‑down strike starting October 5, citing a dispute over a circulated video.

Resident doctors attached to hospitals across Tripura issued a notice that they will commence a pen‑down strike from October 5. The move comes in response to a controversy surrounding a video that was allegedly shared without their consent, prompting concerns over professional dignity and privacy.

The doctors contend that the video, which has circulated on social media, misrepresents their conduct and could undermine public confidence in medical services. They warn that the strike, which involves refraining from routine duties while remaining on call for emergencies, may disrupt outpatient care and elective procedures in the state’s government hospitals.

Health department officials have acknowledged the grievance and said they are in talks with representatives of the resident doctors to seek an amicable resolution. The administration has urged the medical staff to avoid any action that could jeopardise patient care while negotiations continue.

If the strike proceeds as threatened, the state could face a temporary shortfall in medical manpower, especially in peripheral districts where resident doctors form the backbone of daily healthcare delivery. Authorities have indicated that contingency plans, including deployment of senior physicians and private practitioners, are being readied to mitigate the impact on patients.

The situation remains fluid, and both sides have called for a swift settlement to prevent escalation. The upcoming days will determine whether dialogue can avert a disruption to the state’s health services.
