Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha of Tripura announced that the state government will commission two new water treatment plants in the capital city of Agartala. The move is aimed at strengthening the municipal water supply network and addressing the growing demand for safe drinking water.
According to the latest figures, 64.78% of households in Agartala currently have access to treated water. While this represents a majority, the remaining families still rely on untreated sources, underscoring the need for expanded infrastructure.
The planned plants are expected to boost the volume of treated water available to the city, thereby increasing the coverage percentage and improving public health outcomes. Officials indicated that the projects will be financed through state funds and are slated for phased implementation over the coming years.
State authorities have highlighted water security as a priority in their development agenda, and the new facilities are part of a broader effort to modernise essential services in Tripura's urban centres.
