Tripura announces five-year crime roadmap with tech-driven policing and faster FIRs

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha unveiled a comprehensive five-year crime roadmap for Tripura during a press briefing, stating that the plan aims to modernise law‑enforcement and improve public safety across the state. The roadmap sets out a series of milestones to be achieved over the next five years, with a clear emphasis on technology adoption and procedural efficiency.
The new strategy calls for the deployment of advanced digital tools such as artificial‑intelligence‑based analytics, expanded CCTV networks and mobile applications that enable real‑time crime monitoring. Police stations will be equipped with upgraded communication systems to facilitate rapid information sharing and predictive policing.
To accelerate the filing of First Information Reports, the government will introduce an online FIR portal and a dedicated helpline, reducing the time taken to register complaints. Officials say the streamlined process will help victims lodge reports more easily and allow investigators to act sooner.
A scientific approach to investigations will be reinforced by strengthening forensic laboratories, introducing standardized evidence‑handling protocols and providing specialised training for investigators. The roadmap also envisages collaborations with academic institutions for research on crime trends.
