The ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago affirmed that India is prepared to take a leading role in enhancing South‑South cooperation among developing nations.
New Delhi – The envoy of Trinidad and Tobago told Asianet Newsable that India is ready to assume a leadership position in South‑South cooperation, signalling a renewed diplomatic push among developing economies.
South‑South cooperation, a framework that encourages mutual assistance among emerging and developing nations, has seen India contribute technology, capacity‑building and trade facilitation in recent years. The ambassador highlighted that India’s growing economic clout and experience in sectors such as renewable energy, pharmaceuticals and digital services make it a natural catalyst for broader collaboration.
"India’s readiness to lead reflects both its strategic interests and its commitment to shared development goals," the envoy said, adding that bilateral ties with Trinidad and Tobago could serve as a pilot for wider regional initiatives.
He suggested that future projects may focus on climate resilience, health infrastructure and skill development, areas where India has already launched several outreach programmes.
The statement underscores a diplomatic narrative that positions India as a bridge between the Global South, aiming to deepen trade, knowledge exchange and joint ventures across continents.
