The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has publicly branded actress‑turned‑politician Koel Mallick a traitor after reports surfaced that she is pursuing a Rajya Sabha ticket from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). TMC leaders, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, criticized Mallick for allegedly abandoning the party’s interests in favour of the opposition.
Mallick, who has been active in West Bengal politics for several years, is said to have approached BJP officials with the intention of securing a parliamentary seat. The move has sparked a sharp backlash from TMC, which has long maintained a dominant position in the state’s political landscape.
The allegation comes as the Rajya Sabha elections approach, with several seats up for grabs. TMC’s statement emphasised loyalty to the party and warned that such actions undermine the party’s unity and credibility.
