The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued thunderstorms and lightning across the state until October 9.
The IMD issued an advisory that the state will experience persistent thunderstorm activity and frequent lightning strikes through October 9. The warning follows a series of severe weather events that have already affected parts of the region this week.
Meteorologists attribute the prolonged disturbance to a deepening low‑pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to move slowly northward, maintaining unstable atmospheric conditions. Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak activity, avoid open fields, and keep away from tall structures.
Local authorities have been instructed to activate emergency response teams, ensure power utilities are on standby, and disseminate real‑time alerts via mobile and media channels. The department will issue further updates if the situation changes.
