A Maruti Alto carrying three people sank in a Zanskar river, and all three occupants are now missing, officials said.
A Maruti Alto that was traveling through the remote Zanskar valley in Ladakh fell into a fast‑moving river, leaving three occupants unaccounted for. Local witnesses reported hearing a splash and seeing the vehicle disappear beneath the water.
Rescue teams from the district administration and the Ladakh Disaster Management Force were dispatched immediately. Divers and inflatable boats were employed to scour the river, but the strong current and steep banks hampered the search.
Authorities have launched a formal missing‑persons inquiry and are coordinating with nearby villages for any information on the occupants. The incident underscores the hazards of navigating the rugged terrain and river crossings in the region, especially during the monsoon‑affected months.
Families of the missing have been urged to remain patient as the search continues, and officials have warned motorists to exercise extreme caution on narrow mountain roads and river fords.
