On the ninth day of Shradha (Maternal Navami) and the tenth day of the Pitri Paksha fair in Gaya, devotees performed a special pind‑daan for Mother Sita at Siatakund.

Gaya witnessed a large gathering of devotees on the ninth day of Shradha, known as Maternal Navami, to perform a special pind‑daan for Mother Sita at the historic Siatakund. The ceremony coincided with the tenth day of the annual Pitri Paksha fair, a traditional observance dedicated to honoring ancestors.

The ritual involved offering rice balls and water to the departed souls of Sita, a practice that local priests say has been observed for centuries at this sacred site. Participants recited verses from the Ramayana and performed the customary aarti before the water body.

Organisers reported that thousands of pilgrims, many traveling from nearby districts, took part in the event, reinforcing the enduring cultural link between the region and the epic narrative of Ram and Sita. The gathering underscores the continued relevance of ancient rites in contemporary Bihar.

Local religious leaders emphasized that the pind‑daan on Maternal Navami is intended to honor the maternal lineage of the divine couple, complementing the more common paternal rites performed during Pitri Paksha. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of prasad to all attendees.
