Telangana Forest Department Boosts Anti‑Poaching Drive Ahead of Dasara

The state’s forest officials have announced a heightened anti‑poaching operation targeting the Palapitta bird, a species that draws attention during the upcoming Dasara celebrations. Poachers have long exploited the festive demand for these birds, prompting authorities to act before the holiday rush.

In response, the department has deployed additional forest guards along known nesting areas, set up temporary checkpoints, and increased patrol frequency in vulnerable zones. Coordination with local police and community volunteers is also being strengthened to monitor suspicious activity and gather intelligence.

Officials warned that any illegal capture or trade of Palapitta will attract strict legal action under wildlife protection laws. The department appealed to the public to report sightings of poaching and to support conservation efforts during the festival period.
