Tear gas used on protestors in Bihar has led to about 40 soldiers at BMP 13 falling ill, highlighting the risks of crowd control chemicals.

A tear gas deployment during a protest in Bihar has resulted in roughly forty State Armed Police personnel at BMP 13 reporting symptoms of respiratory irritation and dizziness. The gas, used to disperse demonstrators, was released in close proximity to the soldiers’ station, causing the sudden spike in illness.

The incident occurred in the Darbhanga district, where police had been tasked with maintaining order amid escalating demonstrations. According to officials, the tear gas was applied in an attempt to control crowds, but the chemical drift affected the nearby military police.

Medical teams on site treated the affected soldiers, providing oxygen therapy and monitoring for allergic reactions. Command has issued a directive to review the use of crowd‑control agents near military installations to prevent similar health incidents.

This event underscores the broader concerns about tear gas usage across India, where reports of health complications among both civilians and security personnel have prompted calls for stricter regulation and safer alternatives.
