A teacher in Muzaffarpur district was found to have worked for about 12 years using a forged Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) certificate, prompting the police to file a first information report.

The Muzaffarpur district administration’s vigilance investigation unit uncovered irregularities in the academic credentials of Gyanthi Kumari, a teacher appointed under the state’s recruitment drive. The probe revealed that her Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) certificate was fabricated, allowing her to secure a teaching post in the Meenapur block for more than a decade.

Authorities said the falsified document enabled Kumari to remain in service for roughly twelve years before the discrepancy surfaced. The investigation team submitted its findings to the local police, which subsequently registered a first information report (FIR) against her for fraud and forgery under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about the verification of qualifications in the education sector. The district education office has been instructed to re‑examine the credentials of all recently appointed teachers to prevent similar lapses.

The police have not disclosed whether any further legal action, such as suspension or dismissal, will be taken pending a court trial. Meanwhile, the education department is reviewing its recruitment protocols to strengthen document verification mechanisms.
