Farmers in Ludhiana’s Hawra Road grain market have spread tarpaulins over standing rice crops to protect them from impending rain.
Ludhiana’s Hawra Road grain market, a key collection point for paddy in the region, saw farmers lay tarpaulins over their standing rice crops as a precaution against forecasted rain. The protective sheets were spread directly on the fields within the market premises to shield the grain from waterlogging and potential loss.
Market officials confirmed that the move was coordinated by local farmer groups after receiving weather alerts indicating heavy showers. By covering the crop early, they aim to preserve both yield quality and market supply.
The tarpaulin covering is expected to remain in place until the rain subsides, after which the crops will be harvested and dispatched through the usual channels.
