Tamil Nadu's GST receipts grew by 16.1% in the latest period, Finance Minister T.V. K. said, while accusing the ruling DMK of spreading propaganda.

The state’s finance ministry reported a 16.1% rise in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for the most recent reporting period, signalling a robust fiscal performance amid a challenging economic backdrop.

Finance Minister T.V. K. highlighted the growth as evidence of improved compliance and effective tax administration, adding that the additional revenue will support key development projects across Tamil Nadu.

At the same press briefing, the minister turned political, alleging that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) was engaging in "propaganda" to downplay the state's fiscal achievements.

The GST surge comes as the central government continues to push for higher tax compliance nationwide, and Tamil Nadu’s figures are being watched closely by policymakers and investors alike.

Analysts note that while the increase is positive, sustained growth will depend on broader economic recovery and continued enforcement measures.
