The Tamil Nadu government, responding to an RTI query, said the Public Works Department could not provide any details on studies, criteria or rationale behind choosing Pattinapakkam for the new Secretariat.
The state government of Tamil Nadu answered a Right‑to‑Information request by stating that the Public Works Department (PWD) does not possess any records regarding the selection of Pattinapakkam as the site for the proposed new Secretariat. The department said it has no documentation of feasibility studies, selection criteria, or any other analytical reports related to the decision.
Pattinapakkam, a locality on the outskirts of Chennai, has been earmarked for the construction of a new administrative complex intended to house various state ministries. The proposal, first announced earlier this year, has drawn attention due to its scale and the expected impact on local infrastructure and land use.
The government's admission of missing data has raised questions about the transparency of the site‑selection process. Officials have been urged to furnish the missing information and to clarify the basis for the choice, as stakeholders await further clarification before the project proceeds.
