Tamil Nadu Chief Minister met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister in Vijayawada, focusing on the proposed Godavari‑Cauvery river linking project.
The chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh convened in Vijayawada to examine the long‑standing proposal of linking the Godavari and Cauvery rivers. The meeting, held at the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's office, centered on the technical and financial viability of the inter‑state water project.
Both leaders emphasized the need for cooperative water management to address recurring shortages in their respective states. They agreed to set up a joint task force that will study the engineering requirements, environmental impact and cost‑sharing mechanisms.
The discussion also touched upon the potential benefits of the link, including enhanced irrigation capacity, drought mitigation and improved water supply for urban areas. Officials from both states are expected to submit a detailed feasibility report to the central government in the coming weeks.
