The Election Commission has announced that byelection voting will be held in just two Tamil Nadu constituencies, the only seats currently vacant.
The Election Commission of India has issued a notification that byelection polling will be conducted in only two assembly constituencies of Tamil Nadu. These two seats are the only ones that have become vacant, prompting the commission to schedule a focused poll rather than a statewide election.
According to the notification, the vacancies arose from recent resignations and a death of sitting legislators, leaving the two constituencies without representation in the state assembly. All other seats continue to be occupied, so no additional polls are required at this time.
The commission has confirmed that the election will follow the standard procedures, with polling stations set up across the two constituencies, security arrangements in place, and electronic voting machines to be used. Voters in the affected areas are urged to exercise their franchise on the announced date.
Political analysts note that while the number of seats is small, the results could provide an early indication of public sentiment ahead of the next general state election.
