Security officials detected an unidentified drone near Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, prompting the diversion of three scheduled flights.
Security teams at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar reported spotting an unidentified aerial device hovering near the runway early on Wednesday. The drone, described as small and operating at low altitude, triggered standard air‑traffic safety protocols.
In response, air traffic control instructed three commercial flights scheduled to land at the airport to divert to alternate airports in Delhi, Chandigarh and Jammu. Passengers were briefed on the change and airlines arranged for re‑booking and accommodation where necessary.
The airport’s security unit, in coordination with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and local police, launched an immediate investigation to locate the drone and identify its operator. No injuries were reported, and the aircraft involved completed their journeys safely after diversion.
Authorities warned that the incident underscores growing concerns over unauthorized drone use near critical infrastructure, and they have announced a review of surveillance measures to prevent future disruptions.
