Supreme Court has been urged to stop mass deletions from voter rolls after allegations that a State Information Report (SIR) was used to manipulate the lists, according to opposition lawmaker Kapil Sibal.

The Supreme Court of India has been called upon to halt the practice of bulk deletions from voter rolls after allegations surfaced that a State Information Report (SIR) was employed to manipulate the electoral lists.

The SIR, a document that provides detailed information on the status of voter registrations, is now under scrutiny for potential misuse. Critics argue that the report could be leveraged to target specific demographic groups, thereby compromising the integrity of the electoral process.

Opposition lawmaker Kapil Sibal voiced the concerns in a statement to the Deccan Herald, urging the Court to intervene and ensure that voter rolls are maintained accurately and transparently.

If the Supreme Court does not act, there are fears that further bulk deletions could erode public trust in the electoral system and lead to legal challenges at the national level.
