The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission has stopped the ongoing election process for 100 urban local bodies following a directive from the Supreme Court.

The State Election Commission (SEC) of Andhra Pradesh announced that it has halted the election schedule for a total of 100 urban local bodies (ULBs) across the state. The decision comes directly after the Supreme Court issued an order directing the commission to pause the polls.

The Supreme Court intervention was prompted by petitions challenging the conduct of the elections, though the court’s order did not specify any immediate resumption date. As a result, the SEC has suspended all further voting, counting and related activities for the affected municipalities and municipal corporations until further notice.

State officials indicated that the commission will comply fully with the court’s directive and will seek clarification on the next steps. The pause is expected to impact the timeline for local governance formation in the concerned ULBs, which were slated to hold elections later this year.
