The Supreme Court of India has begun hosting the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum in New Delhi, bringing together the top judges of the five BRICS nations.
New Delhi, Sept 4 2026 – The Supreme Court of India opened its doors today to the inaugural session of the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum. The gathering is scheduled to run for several days, featuring discussions on judicial cooperation, comparative law and common challenges faced by the courts of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Organisers from the Supreme Court’s International Relations Division said the forum aims to strengthen legal ties among the BRICS members and explore avenues for mutual assistance in areas such as trans‑national crime, human rights and technology‑driven litigation.
Senior officials confirmed that the chief justices of the five BRICS countries will attend the opening ceremony, followed by a series of plenary sessions and bilateral meetings. The venue for the event is the Supreme Court’s Conference Hall, located in the heart of New Delhi.
The forum comes at a time when the BRICS bloc is seeking deeper institutional collaboration beyond economic matters. Participants are expected to issue a joint declaration outlining shared priorities for the global judicial community.
The Supreme Court will also host a cultural program showcasing Indian legal heritage, underscoring the host nation’s commitment to fostering a collaborative spirit among the participating judiciaries.
